The STR K-boys soccer team went on the road this past Saturday to face Kirk Day on another great fall morning. I am not one to make excuses but the field was rather bumpy with a serious downward slant and there was only one whistle-less ref in attendance who seemed to have difficulty remembering how to tell time. There I feel better.
The crowd had high hopes for victory coming off last weeks performance and the W against KD earlier in the season. It just was’t in the cards. KD went ahead in the second 1-0. STR appeared to have tied it with a Jake Vitale goal but the aforementioned ref let the quarter go long and had NO way of stopping play before the goal took place. Jake managed to get one in the third, 1-1, but KD quickly came back with another to win, 1-2. Nathan continued to play well. He had a couple of goal opportunities. Despite being tired from running all over the field, he did not play in goal this week. He actually sat out very little. And of all days to forget his water bottle, chalk one up for Mom & Dad. The season currently stands all tied up 4-4-1. A winning season seems unlikely becuase up next is that select team from Italy. We do have two things in our favor though, home field advantage and an early start (an even earlier start for the driving team). Check in next week for the exciting conclusion.
