STR boys finally got to play their first match on Sunday. It was originally rained out. I'd love to have some of that rain now. It also marked the first time STR played an opponent for the second time. I think Holy Infant remembered its 5-0 licking from the previous week. They came out strong and determined.
STR looked lackadaisical. Was it the mid afternoon heat? the second game in twenty-four hours? lack of substitutes? overconfidence? maybe a little bit of everything. In the second quarter, Holy Infant went on top first, 1-0. HI decided to put all their efforts up front usually leaving one man back with the goalie. So breakaways came easy for STR, but after SO many of them, they became winded easily. STR tied it up in the third qurater with a goal from star forward Jake Vitale, 1-1. The game ended in a tie with ALOT of red faces even HI’s coach. Calm down buddy it’s K boys soccer. Let the kids have some fun. Hopefully with some well deserved rest they will face St. Clement of Rome with great vigor. Perhaps the jet lag will help?
