Even thought STR went undefeated they tied in points with TO due to the 3 Ts. They lead the division in goals scored with 41! (TO, 38) They were second in goals against, 4! (TO, 3) Nathan scored an amazing 6 goals this season. Way 2 Go Buddy!!! Keep up the great work!
Nathan will spend the off season preparing for spring baseball.

================

Carter’s team will celebrate their season (5-3-2) with a bowling party tonight at Strike and Spare Lanes. Carter showed progress on the field. We are still aiming for aggressiveness. Most importantly all had fun and snacks!

Catching Up

Soccer
Wow, where to start. How about soccer? Nathan has been pounding the turf when is on the field. He added another goal on October 18 to increase his season total to 4. After the game, he told me he scored it for my birthday. Thanks buddy! Also his team is in sole posession of first place in his division. Carter's team has been struggling of late, but the kids are having a good time.

Oct 10 Weekend
For those of you in the know it was our 11th wedding anniversary, we were given a night out by my parents. We hit the Chase Park Plaza for a movie Burn After Reading (thumbs up) and dinner at the Eau Bistro (highly recommend). We then found ourselves at the Cupcakery for some celebratory mini cakes. It was a great night out in the Central West End. On Saturday the 11th (our actual anniversary), we had consession stand duty for Nathan’s team, quickly perused the STR Holiday Boutique, and then off to my cousin, Katie’s Wedding. You could tell ALOT of hard work went into their special day. Everything was great! Thanks for sharing your day with us Katie. It also didn't hurt that MU lost and KU won. Wha Hoo!

Oct 17th Weekend
On Thursday, October 16, I made my first journey to the Pageant to see Ben Folds. He supported his most current release, Way to Normal, to which most of the songs played that night came from. I was glad to finally see him live. I do enjoy the current album, but I would have preferred to hear more, older tunes. (Side note, I would definitely return to the Pageant)

On Saturday, October 18, I received Star Wars’ Force Unleashed PS3 video game, Transformers movie on Blu-ray, Heart’s Greatest Hits CD and Weird Al Yankovic’s Dare to be Stupid CD. The boys wore out my audio cassette playing Yoda over and over and over again. I decided to spend my birthday at Lumiere Place. The newest casino in the St Louis area. We stopped by the the Burger Bar for some dinner. (yum!) After asking the casino if any tix remained for the show at their theater, we were surprised to be comped two tickets to see Steven Wright. I saw him in Lawrence a few years back and enjoyed him more then, but he still puts on a good show. (can't argue with free, though) On our way back to pick up the kiddos my mother-in-law, Judy offered to keep ’em all for the night. (Kaitlyn's first night away) SWEET! So the Mrs and I headed to Park Avenue Coffee for some late night drinks, gooey butter, outdoor fire and some conversation. (yes late night is 9pm) A great day!

Mom & Dad Cross the Altantic
I took my parents to the airport on Oct 15 to travel to Italy with the Albrights. They had a wonderful time! I will try to give some more highlights and some pics when I hear & see more. They returned safely back to the states on October 26.

Halloween
Finally a decent night for bagging free candy!!! This year Nathan was Batman Begins’ Batman complete with utility belt. Carter opted for black SpiderMan, Venom, complete with built in pecs and washboard abs. Kaitlyn started her trick or treating career in a flower ensemble chosen by Christine. I will post pictures upon download. Stay tuned...

Report Cards

Kaitlyn appears to have a tough road ahead of her at St Richard. We could not be any prouder of our two overachievers. Nathan received straight A+s with one A++ in handwriting of all things. Carter also received very high marks (no grades yet for the K boys and girls). One room for improvement is SPEAKING UP in class. Both earned a trip to Red Robin and three round of indoor, glow-in-the-dark mini golf. Keep up the great work boys.

November 1 Soccer
Nathan scores one goal to tie the CPOP game at one each. He ALMOST put in number two for the game winner. Great try, buddy. STR 1st boys (6-0-3) settle for a tie against a good CPOP (6-1-2) team. Carter’s team ran away with a win their opponent, Sacred Heart, 7-2. The highlights of the game were Carter’s midfield breakaway attempt at his first career goal (so close) and a save at the other end of the field while playing goalie. Good job boys!

Another one bite the dust...
Nathan lost tooth number 4 on Monday, November 3. No Picture yet but stay tuned for the toothless wonder.

Wow, I am tired. ;-) Until next time...

A Weekend Update

Soccer season is in full swing and I apologize for slacking off on my soccer reporting. The boys are doing great. The St Richard 1st grade boys are second in their division. Nathan is quickly becoming a powerhouse at forward, three goals on the season so far an itchin’ fer more. He had three chances on Saturday for number 4, but failed to slip one by the goalie. The boys faced the division leaders, Twin Oaks, on Saturday, but came away with a tie (0-0). It was a hard fought battle on both ends and a great game to watch. Carter is starting a career at goalie. Not easy for a boy who shies away from ball contact. We'll keep ya posted. Carter missed Saturday's game due to illness and was unable to attend his first game make up on Sunday due to a family event (read later). I'll post the results and scores when the information is available to me.

While Nathan was playing soccer, Kaitlyn underwent her first photo shoot. An ex co-worker, Mike Cook, has a female photographer friend, Nicole Whelch. She traveled to our house and took some portrait and lifestyle shots of Kaitlyn and family. See the sneak peek of some photos below. We will post a link to the full gallery when available if anyone is interested in purchasing some photos. Nicole did an awesome job, please feel free to see more of her work at nicolewelch.wordpress.com.

On Sunday, we celebrated the Golden Jubilee of a close family friend Sr. Raymond at Epiphany Church. Grandpa Bischof was allowed to concelebrate the ceremony. It is a great pleasure to call her a friend of the family. I know what your thinking... who? Here is a little background. She became friends with my Aunt Betty when they worked at St Richard together. She taught me fourth grade religion at STR and supplied me with a great memory I will NEVER forget. She is also very close friend of my first grade teacher, Mrs. Richardson whose husband works for Ford Motor company. She left St Richard when her husband was transferred to Kansas City. Fast forward. Our St. Louis Cardinals went to the World Series in 1985 to play our neighbors to the west the Royals. Sr. Raymond was visiting the Richardson family and was offered two tickets to the opening game. At the time, I was as big of fan of the Cardinals as my son, Nathan, is now. So out of the kindness of her heart not only did she invite me to the game in KC, but she drove all the way back to St. Louis to pick me up!!! We watched the Cards beat the Royals, 3-1, the day after my 12th birthday. It was awesome. Thanks Sr Raymond. Within minutes of the opening whistle, Nathan opened the game with St Richard's first goal. It was a fantastic lob kick from the left side of the goal which sailed past the goal keeper's reach to enter on the right. It proved to be the only goal STR would need, but the team wasn't quite finished. More details later...

In other sporting news...Carter's game was cancelled to due unfavorable field conditions.

STR              | 1 | 1      | 4 | 0       ||6
STLFC         | 0 | 0     | 0      | 0      ||0

Carter starts New Chapter!

Carter started Kindergarten at St Richard School yesterday. It was an event he'd been waiting for a LONG time. Alot of his kindergarten classmates were loosing teeth periodically throughout the school year and Nathan being one of the younger kids didn't get his chance. The Tooth Fairy allowed him to keep the first one for sentimental reasons, but said she'll be back for the next one. Nathan made out with a dollar.

He lost the second tooth on 08/08/08 during dinner. The pictures are deceiving because in both cases the permanent tooth was already arriving. The Tooth Fairy had difficulty retrieving the "tooth in a bag" due to the movement of the pillow, but he still came out richer with another dollar bill.

Nathan Kindergarten Graduation

Nathan Graduates from Kindergarten

Nathan has officially completed grade K. Please check back next week for more pics and news.

It Really is a girl!!!

Click photo to see pictures

Kaitlyn arrived at 1:01 am May 18, 2008. Yes us hawkers are spoiled with the continuing success of our men’s basketball program. But football. It’s mind boggling to actually think this is a reality. The NU game was like watching the Rams in their prime. Almost to the point it got a little boring watching touchdown after touchdown ;-) Sure the touchdowns and defensive turnovers are great, but the lack of penalties is true testament to the coaching staff. Rock Chalk, Jayhawk, Go KU!

PS If anyone has tickets for the arrowhead game against the kitty kats, you know how to get a hold of me!

Almost

The STR K-boys soccer team went on the road this past Saturday to face Kirk Day on another great fall morning. I am not one to make excuses but the field was rather bumpy with a serious downward slant and there was only one whistle-less ref in attendance who seemed to have difficulty remembering how to tell time. There I feel better.

The crowd had high hopes for victory coming off last weeks performance and the W against KD earlier in the season. It just was’t in the cards. KD went ahead in the second 1-0. STR appeared to have tied it with a Jake Vitale goal but the aforementioned ref let the quarter go long and had NO way of stopping play before the goal took place. Jake managed to get one in the third, 1-1, but KD quickly came back with another to win, 1-2. Nathan continued to play well. He had a couple of goal opportunities. Despite being tired from running all over the field, he did not play in goal this week. He actually sat out very little. And of all days to forget his water bottle, chalk one up for Mom & Dad. The season currently stands all tied up 4-4-1. A winning season seems unlikely becuase up next is that select team from Italy. We do have two things in our favor though, home field advantage and an early start (an even earlier start for the driving team). Check in next week for the exciting conclusion.

NATHAN SCORES!!!!

It happened on a perfectly magnificent October fall morning, a great morning for outdoor activities. Despite many attempts by the STR K boys soccer team, the game remained scoreless throughout the first quarter. A few minutes after the second quarter commenced, Grandma “B” finally arrived from her chores at Hamilton Pre-School. She unfolded her chair and sat. She contemplated moving to be closer to Pa-Pa, but if she had, it would have devastated her for the rest of her life...

Meanwhile, a power struggle ensued on the Holy Infant side of the field. Nathan managed to break free of the “swarm” and attacked the net. The only obstacles between him and glory was a defender and goalie. As he entered the box, he wound up and blasted a powerful kick from the left side of the post to the right. Nathan claims it went through the defenders legs. The spectators only saw a fast moving ball fly by two unsuspecting boys. GOALLLLLL!!! The crowd went CRAZY!!! As he ran back to his side of the field for the re-set, Nathan got a high five from his coach on the field. A grin from ear to ear appeared on his face as he reveled in the moment. STR up 1-0.

Time would prove that Nathnan’s goal would be all STR needed on Saturday, but star forward Jake Vitale added one more in the third just to be sure. That insurance we hoped built up the confidence of the 3rd & 4th quarter goalie, the aforementioned, Nathan Bischof. To the pleasure of his parents. Nathan remained fairly bored between the poles due to the excellent skills of his defenders.

STR defeated HI 2-0. STR went above .500 for the season with a W-L-T record of 4-3-1. The boys get Wednesday off for some trick or treating.

FYI Carter’s final match is scheduled for tonight. There is no rain schedule but don't be surprise if you see some drops falling aroung 5:30 pm tonight.

Jayhawks get national coverage

KU 19, CU 14
BCS Ranking 9
And yes it IS exciting

Cater's Lament

A new formula for rain:
Soccer game + Carter Bischof = Rain.

If this keeps up we need to find a way of making some money on this equation. They came out of the gate running. Star forward Jake Vitale almost scored on the first attempt down the field. But he would have to wait till his second. This week the boys spread some of the goal scoring around. Jake had three. Lucas Smith got his first of the season. Amil(?) got his first of the season on a penalty kick. Nathan played exceptionally well at defense and even spent the last quarter in goal. Wow talk about nerve racking. He did save a couple to complete the shutout. STR walked away with a 5-0 victory putting them at 3-3-1 for the season.

One shopping day left...

... ’til the big 34

Carter plays his first soccer game! FINALLY!

Carter got his first chance on the soccer field Monday night after last weeks non-rain out. I guess this team loves rain because it rain the whole game. It was the Blue/White STR Pre-K match. So a win-win for everyone involved. Carter seemed more interested in kicking the dirt/mud and chatting with his fellow teammates on both side of the field. Carter played forward and was in the vicinity for tow of the three goals his team managed to get by the goalie. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. Upon the conclusion of the game, Carter as well as his teammates were most excited about the snack and free ice slushy from the concession stand. Smiles everywhere. One more game next week. Congrats, Carter!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://thebischofs.blogspot.com/2007/10/carter-plays-his-first-game-finally.html' title='Carter plays his first soccer game! Anniversary you say? Yes, 10 years. We journeyed to the Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, MO for some well deserved rest & relaxation. We had a great time in out secluded cabin in the woods. We forgot our camera so unfortunately I have nothing to show for it. We ate a lot of good food and only saw one show, Kirby Van Burch, an illusionist. We look forward to returning to the BCL.

Soccer Update
Last week we told there are two Holy Infant teams which really explains the number of times they appear on the schedule. With the parents and grandpa away for the weekend, it was up to Grandma B & E to get Nathan to his game. STR played the tougher of the two HI teams Saturday and came up short, 1-2. And no Nathan didn't score.

Rock Chalk Review
KU 58 Baylor 10. STR continues to investigate the possibility of the team being a select soccer team directly imported from Italy. We will keep you posted when more details are available.

Can’t say if it was the size/skill intimidation or lack of focus that caused the downfall on Saturday, but the STR team that played the first half of the season was NO where to be found. It got ugly quick with SCR scoring in the first minute of play. They finished the first quarter 3 up on STR. Then a gleam of hope the SCR’s star forward was placed in goal. But unfortunately another star emerged. End of half, 4-0.

Both stars must have hit the bench and STR had a couple of opportunities in the third, but no scoring entailed. SCR brought both star forwards out for quarter four to tack three more on to the total to go ahead 7-0 in the match. The boys didn't seem to care much as the engulfed their after game snack and drink provided by Nathan. Better luck next week against Holy Infant, boys!

All is well

I apologize for the delay in reporting the success of Judy’s surgery. It was originally rained out. I'd love to have some of that rain now. It also marked the first time STR played an opponent for the second time. I think Holy Infant remembered its 5-0 licking from the previous week. They came out strong and determined.

STR looked lackadaisical. Was it the mid afternoon heat? the second game in twenty-four hours? lack of substitutes? overconfidence? maybe a little bit of everything. In the second quarter, Holy Infant went on top first, 1-0. HI decided to put all their efforts up front usually leaving one man back with the goalie. So breakaways came easy for STR, but after SO many of them, they became winded easily. STR tied it up in the third qurater with a goal from star forward Jake Vitale, 1-1. The game ended in a tie with ALOT of red faces even HI’s coach. Calm down buddy it’s K boys soccer. Let the kids have some fun. Hopefully with some well deserved rest they will face St. Clement of Rome with great vigor. Perhaps the jet lag will help?

Victory?

STR K-Boys played their first official home game on Saturday morning. It may not have been the home field advantage they were expecting due to it enormous size, their first on such a field so large. It may have effected their play on Sunday, but more on that later.

Kirk Day scored first... for STR. Do ya clap in that situation or not? Tough Call. Kirk Day finished the half off with their own official goal, 1-1. After a side swap, the new morning sun shone brightly in the faces of the STR defense. They were able to block out the bright light enough to stop the onslaught of Kirk Day’s offensive attack. Jake Vitale, STR's star forward, scored in the fourth to secure a STR victory(?).

Nathan had THREE great opportunities to score his first goal of the year. He continues to show great tenacity to find the ball on attack it. Although he wouldn’t admit it, we could decipher by the look on his face he felt disappointment over his inability to slip one past the goalie. The boys are definitely having fun. The stars of the team are sure shining bright.

A Tale of Opposites

On Sunday, the STR K-Boys Soccer team hit the road again to face Holy Infant for their second match of the year. It was a hot, late afternoon game with lots of scoring. STR started the barrage of goal attempts with a score just seconds into the first quarter. They finished the first quarter with 3 goals to go ahead in the game 3-0. STR continued to to pound the ball into the opponents goal. After a wise second quarter goalie change, STR netted no new goals to the total. The boys would remain scoreless until the fourth and final quarter to finish the game 5-0. The goal responsibilities were shared by Jake Vitale and Lucas Smith. All the boys played great especially Nathan who was disappointed that he too didn't score. Better luck next time Nathan.

STR will play their first home game of the season next Saturday in an early 8am match against Kirk Day. The weather was great and the crowds were small. Nathan and Carter enjoyed some adult rides on this trip including The Screaming Eagle (twice), Tony Hawks’ Big Spin (a family favorite - three times), the Rush Street Flyer, the Joker (aka the Buccaneer - ) and the Mine Train (four times). Nathan got to ride in the front of the Mine Train once. The boys enjoyed Bugs Bunny’s National Park (kid sized rides) as well as the big character parade. Dad got to drop out of the sky once like Superman. A rush I'd highly recommend. They got to meet Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester, Tweety Bird, Scooby-Doo, Wonder Woman, Batman and Flash.
